Chapter 17 GOAL: Place a value on how the development of the West impacted various groups in the late 19th century
17.1: Describe how mining and railroads motivated people to the West.
17.2: Discuss the consequences of the conflict between the Native  Americans and white settlers.
17.3: Determine how the reasons why farmers and ranchers moved West caused conflict between these groups.

TEST PREPARATION:
The year is 1880, after the Homestead Act, Congress is planning on giving away more free land and money.  Congress will have to decide how to give the land to the groups that want to settle the West - Ranchers, Miners, Homestead Farmers, Native Americans and Freedmen. 

You will decide how it is done...
1.  As a group, discuss your reasons for DESERVING the land/$
           a.  Your impact on the development of the West and America.
           b.  Your efforts/struggles so far.
           c.  CREATE A SLOGAN TO SUMMARIZE YOUR REASONS
2.  Debate to convince the others you should get what you want
3.  CHAPTER 17 TEST TUESDAY.  You will come up with a plan and defend it with specific details as evidence.
