Causes of The Great Depression

Chapter 23 GOAL:  React to how the Great Depression affected the American people and changed the role of government.

23.1  Identify the problems that caused the Great Depression


1.  Solve the Mystery:
     A young man named Steve lived in an apartment in New York City. He worked as a radio salesman and lived comfortably with his brother, Bill. They appeared happy and prosperous. Suddenly, one day in 1932, Bill did not show up for dinner. Steve would get a letter from Bill from time to time, but they were never sent from the same place. The next year, Steve decided he had to sell his brand new car and move. When Steve arrived in Central New York, he lived in a cabin in the woods, each morning he went to school and then, in the afternoon, cleared trees from an area in the woods.  Steve missed his brother, Bill, and their comfortable life together. .

You must figure out the reasons why Steve and Bill would leave the comfort of New York City for a difficult life a part from each other.
Questions posed to teacher must be answerable with
only a yes or a no.
